BE GREAT Academy Health & Wellness Youth Programs & Initiatives

The Health & Wellness programs offered through BE GREAT Academy are there to encourage members to make positive choices around their physical, mental and emotional health. Members learn how to: identify & manage emotions; practice proper nutrition & exercise; be responsible for one’s own actions; maintain positive relationships.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is woven throughout of program in several different forms. During the school year, mindfulness activities are part of BE GREAT Academy’s daily assembly. Over the summer and during winter & spring break, each day begins with an activity that helps members control their emotions, and strengthens their mind/body connection.  Mindfulness includes: Meditation, Yoga, Fitness Challenges, Wellness Discussions, Tai Chi & Zumba.

Healthy Habits

Designed to promote healthy living and active learning, Healthy Habits emphasizes good nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well-being by helping members learn how their body’s & brains work and addresses the ways an individual’s health behaviors are influenced by personal beliefs and exposure to positive modeling. In addition to nutrition education, activities focus on helping youth assess, practice, identify, consider, and recognize health behaviors and messages.

Positive Sprouts

Positive Sprouts program focuses on improving nutrition by providing members with the tools necessary to build and maintain healthy eating habits. This program teaches members the basics of gardening, farming and sustainability.

National Fitness Challenge

The National Fitness Competition is designed to lead Club members to attain the ability, confidence and desire to be physically active for life. This curriculum features a series of fun challenges that teach teamwork and sportsmanship while building member’s strength, agility, and coordination.
